Being a good neighbour

Being a good neighbour and having a positive impact on the local area is very important to us.

The University and the London Borough of Barnet will continue to work together with the police to reduce the incidence and impact of antisocial behaviour. We have listened to local residents and have increased security patrols on and around campus, and made it easier for residents to report problems or issues.

Events and Exhibitions open to the public

STEM Festival

Wednesday 13 March 2024, 5pm to 7pm – Rickett Quadrangle (The Quad), 港彩全年历史图库 London, The Burroughs, Hendon, NW4 4BT

The festival takes place during British Science Week and brings together hundreds of young people from across North London, local residents and industry representatives to explore STEM subjects. It showcases the latest technology and facilities that 港彩全年历史图库 uses to teach our students plus interactive activities and demonstrations focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The Mayor of Morphou and The Mayor of Barnet ‘Human Rights in Cyprus’ Lecture

Monday 18 March 2024, 12.30pm to 2pm – Hendon Town Hall Council Chamber, The Burroughs, Hendon, London, NW4 4BG

This annual lecture is a collaboration with the Mayor of Morphou Cyprus delegation, The Mayor of Barnet, The High Commissioner of Cyprus in the UK and 港彩全年历史图库 School of Law.

The Big Iftar

Tuesday 19 March 2024, 5pm to 7.15pm – Rickett Quadrangle (The Quad), 港彩全年历史图库 London, The Burroughs, Hendon, NW4 4BT

Join us at 港彩全年历史图库 London for this year's Big Iftar celebration. The Big Iftar is an annual event that takes place during the month of Ramadan. It is a community-led initiative that brings people from different backgrounds and faiths together to share food and conversation. The goal of The Big Iftar is to promote community cohesion, understanding, and solidarity.

On the evening we will hear from The Big Iftar movement's founder, Julie Siddiqi MBE and other guest speakers, plus Exiled Writers Inc. interfaith poetry. The event will also feature performances from Barnet Hill Academy Choir.

The event is open to everyone in Barnet, regardless of their faith or background, and is organised by 港彩全年历史图库 Inter Faith Network, Barnet Council and Barnet Multi Faith Forum.

'How to Navigate Uncertainty in Leadership' –  A webinar with speaker Dr Robin Bagchi for The Distinguished Lecture Series

Managed and chaired by Professor Tim Evans, Professor of Business and Political Economy at 港彩全年历史图库 London, The Distinguished Lecture Series events focus on the area of social policy and business.

Dr Robin Bagchi specialises in leadership dynamics, uniquely blending over three decades of transformative leadership experience with academic research in leadership psychology. His career began at Goldman Sachs, progressing through senior roles in investment banking, private markets, and venture capital across London and New York, including positions as CEO and Chairman. Robin’s academic journey is marked by a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and law degrees from the London School of Economics and Harvard Law School, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. He also holds a PhD in Leadership Psychology from City, University of London, reflecting his deep commitment to understanding the complexities of leadership behaviour and performance.

This multidisciplinary academic background, coupled with a diverse professional trajectory, equips Robin with a comprehensive understanding of the complex challenges contemporary leaders face, enabling him to develop and implement innovative leadership practices. He possesses deep expertise in integrating self-compassion and compassionate leadership practices into organisational cultures. He underscores their vital role in enhancing psychological safety and resilience, mitigating burnout, navigating uncertainty, and elevating leadership effectiveness. His approach uniquely focuses on fostering a community culture within organisations, where mutual support and empathy lay the foundation, thereby reinforcing collective well-being and adaptability in the face of change. Additionally, Robin's expertise delves into the psychological underpinnings of Founder-Executive relationships and Board-CEO dynamics, offering a nuanced perspective on the interpersonal complexities that characterise leadership and governance in uncertain environments.

Healthier High Streets for residents

港彩全年历史图库 has joined a range of shops and businesses in Barnet which are helping to improve the health and wellbeing of our local community through the . The Healthier High Streets programme brings together five schemes set up to encourage businesses to offer environments where the local community can come together and make healthy choices in safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces.

港彩全年历史图库 has joined the ‘Refill Barnet’ scheme for offering free drinking water refills available to all, while the University’s catering provider, Chartwells, has joined the ‘Healthier Catering’ scheme, which guarantees that we offer a healthy and nutritious food offer.

Use our campus spaces

We play a key role in our local area and we support local business, groups, schools, colleges and community members. Many of our campus facilities – including caf茅s, outdoor 3g pitches, multi activity courts and our gymnasium are available to our local community, and we aim to facilitate community use of some meeting rooms and spaces when we are able to. Our Church Farm Meeting Room can also be reserved by the public.

Rickett Quadrangle registered as a Warm Space


Warm Spaces is a community-led initiative where businesses, community, faith or social enterprise organisations provide a welcoming space for residents to stay warm and engage with others in their community.

Our gym, 3g pitches and multi activity courts are open to our local community at competitive rates. Our 3g pitches have marking for Football (11 and 7-aside) Lacrosse and more. Our Multi Activity courts are available for a variety of sports including tennis, netball, 5-aside football and cricket. Find out more about our facilities.

Going green in Hendon

We care about the physical environment at our campus in Hendon, north London. We're doing award winning work to make it more sustainable and to reduce our impact on our environment year on year.

Environment and sustainability

Green spaces

Use of green spaces in our grounds, such as the Paddock and Church House is available to the local community. After they were in decline for several years, in March 2022 we replaced our large conifers in front of the College House building with three Hornbeam trees. We also planted eight small leaved lime trees in the Paddock. We have completed improvements in the , works include:

  • improving the benches through repainting and the replacement of the wood slats
  • planting of native bulbs in the grassed and woodland areas
  • developing an area as a community orchard
  • improvement of sightlines within the park to improve visibility
  • minor improvements to paths to improve safety.
  • we have installed bird, owl and bat boxes on the trees in .

Supporting cultural education in our community

Our Performing Arts Department are pleased to be involved in an exciting new Cultural Education Strategy for Barnet and Culture for Youth, pledging an artist in every school by 2027.

A group of leading arts and education partners worked throughout the pandemic with over 100 arts and education members across Barnet to crystallise a vision where all schools have an artist residency, and every young person can consider and access creative career opportunities.

Join our University and Residents Forum

We want to keep open channels of communication and collaborate better with our neighbours. We have set up a University and Residents Forum and have met several times throughout 2021, 2022 and 2023. Topics discussed included security, community use of University spaces, litter and environmental issues.
