Overview

Promoting social inclusion and recovery lies at the heart of current mental health services and care. You will engage with contemporary theory, research, and policy and will critically review service developments and synthesise information and ideas from a review of service.

This module is ideal for health care professionals, particularly those working in mental health settings (inpatient wards, community). It has been developed to assist mental health practitioners to enhance their skills in social inclusion practice, promoting recovery through effective care planning and management of patient care needs for individuals under mental health services.

Course content

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Analyse, synthesise, and evaluate current theoretical, research and policies in the context of social inclusion and recovery in mental health
  2. Critically analyse a selection of relevant literature related to the identified key findings and use the findings to demonstrate originality of though
  3. Demonstrate advanced decision-making skills in the critical selection of approaches to service review, and conduct review of their own service
  4. Analyse and synthesise the information and ideas from the review and from a search of the relevant sources.

Learning and teaching

The current COVID-19 situation and ongoing uncertainty and challenges surrounding social distancing rules has impacted on how we deliver learning and teaching. To this end, all our short courses, modules and programmes will be delivered this autumn onwards through a mix of online/virtual and face to face modes.

You will be taught using a variety of learning and teaching methods, including study days; to develop and enhance your knowledge; and lectures, seminars and workshops which are interactive to encourage group discussion and student participation. Online learning guides such as course materials and directed exercises will also be available as well as additional resources on risk assessment and management and associated practice-based skills.

When not in class, you will be able to apply your new and developed skills and knowledge in your current organisation and further develop and reflect upon the classroom learning in practice.

Final assessment for this module will be through a poster presentation.
