Erasmus exchange

Hello my name is Sarah and I would like to tell you about my Erasmus experience. For anyone who doesn't know the Erasmus programme is where students can receive financial support from the government to do a study or work placement abroad.

You can choose where you want to go, how long you want to go for and if you want to do a work or study placement. I chose to do a work placement for one year in Valencia in Spain. I chose to do my first work placement in the Polytechnic University of Valencia as it provides you the option to work and also attend lessons for free.

So I decided to continue Spanish lessons to gain more confidence in communicating and also it was a great chance for me to meet other new Erasmus students. In the university I worked in the Teller Communications office and helped Spanish students with their applications to study abroad on their Erasmus.

In my second term I decided to find another work placement in a company called Erasmus Life. Erasmus Life is a company that provides accommodation for Erasmus students and it organises trips and events.

This is a great company to work for if you get to meet so many other people in their Erasmus and it's a great opportunity to travel and experience more. There might be some reasons as to why people think that they can't do an Erasmus program.

Some people feel like they won't fit in or be welcome in another country but this isn't true because many countries that participate in the Erasmus program welcome hundreds of international Erasmus students every year so it's a lot more diverse than you think.

Everyone is in the same position so it's easy to make friends quickly and it's great to meet friends from all different parts of the world. Many people think that you need to know a second language to be able to participate in the Erasmus program but again this isn't true because when I was looking for placements many didn't actually require Spanish and some value that I could speak fluent English.

Also a lot of university courses abroad are also taught in English. Also there are some people that think that they haven't got time to do an Erasmus as they are busy with studying our other commitments however you can actually receive funding for traineeships for just two months so you can go on a placement during the summer and it doesn't need to interrupt your studies at all.

I highly recommend the Erasmus experience to everyone as it provides you with an amazing experience, opportunity to meet new friends, gives you valuable life skills and travel and experience more.
