English language requirements for international students

There are a range of ways that you can provide evidence that you meet our English language requirements. It’s important to note that your English language certificate will need to be translated by a professional translator if it isn’t in English.

Majority English-speaking countries

You are exempt from proving your proficiency in English if you are a national of a majority English-speaking country.

We define these as Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom and USA.

IELTS

The most common way to provide evidence of your English is with the IELTS academic test.

Required IELTS scores:

Undergraduate (bachelor) courses - 6.0 (with minimum 5.5 in all components)
Postgraduate (master's) courses - 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all components)

Middlesex English language test

You can apply to take our in-house English language test. We run these throughout the year, they are open to students from all countries, and are free to sit. Check to see when the next online exam date is.
